We loved her in "I am Sam" as Lucy, the seven-year old inquisitive daughter of a mentally-challenged Sean Penn's character. Now, Dakota Fanning has grown up into a fine young lady. And at 17 years, she is now gracing the cover of mature magazines such as Cosmopolitan! (February 2012 issue).
However, the Cosmopolitan cover gathered mostly negative reactions in the blogosphere as people seem not in favor of an underage Dakota's "gorgeous and grown up with dark eyes, white blonde hair, and a form-fitting dress look" gracing a women's magazine that tackles sex.
Maybe people are worried that Fanning's fan base mostly composed of underage young women who will buy the magazine will be exposed to articles in that particular issue such as “His Best Sex Ever,” “Too Naughty To Stay Here: But You Have to Try This Sex Trick,” and “Um, Vagina Are You Okay Down There?”. On the other hand, that would be sex education for them, huh.
Cosmopolitan defended their action with their statement: “We’re thrilled to feature Dakota Fanning on the February cover of Cosmopolitan magazine and she looks stunning. Dakota, who turns 18 this month, is a mature, fearless young woman and we are proud to honor her as our Fun Fearless Female of the year. We applaud her unprecedented accomplishments which will continue in 2012 with her four upcoming movie roles."
We remember that in November 2011, a Marc Jacobs’ new perfume Oh, Lola! ad with Dakota Fanning in it was banned because according to the Advertising Standards of Authority, "it crosses the lines of appropriateness". The ad shows a very-young looking Fanning is seen in a short, girly dress with a giant bottle of the perfume between her legs.
What do you think?
